What Are ASTM Standards and How Do They Impact Warranty Coverage?

Metal panel warranties usually reference certain industry-related standards that define how product performance is measured. The following American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) International and American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) standards are referenced in Integrity Metals material warranties.

ASTM D-2244 calculates color tolerances and color differences from instrumentally measured color coordinates between specimens such as painted panels. Color change will be measured on an exposed surface that has been cleaned of surface chalk and soils, and the corresponding values measured on the original or unexposed surface. This standard is referenced in our PVDF, PVDF Coastal, SMP and Tedlar® warranties.

ASTM D-4214 Method A evaluates the degree of Chalking on the surface of a metal panel. This method compares the amount of residue collected on a cloth used to strike, with a moderate pressure, the metal roof which is then compared to photographic reference standards to determine the degree of chalking. This standard is referenced in our PVDF, PVDF Coastal, SMP and Tedlar® warranties.

AAMA Publication 610.1-1979 outlines cleaning procedures that are required to keep your PVDF Coastal Warranty in force for the duration of your coverage. Since installations in coastal regions are subject to frequent cycles of condensation and drying that may cause a buildup of atmospheric salts and dirt, a thorough rinsing of panels with fresh water is required a minimum of twice a year. Section 4.1 of this publication offers assistance in establishing safe, sound cleaning procedures to maintain the protective coating on your metal roof without damaging it in order to keep your warranty in force.
